In its choice of Trivendra Singh Rawat as Uttarakhand’s chief minister, BJP has by all accounts, opted for a steady hand. The same cannot be said, however, for its choice of Yogi Aditya

Radical turn: When the saints go marching in – Yogi Adityanath is anointed UP CM

nath to head the vast and populous state of UP – this looks more like a gamble.

Adityanath is a cleric and a radical with little administrative experience; he is best known for inflammatory rhetoric targeting Muslims or anyone who disagrees with his scheme of ‘Hindu rashtra’. It is unknown to what degree he agrees with the constitutional order of the Indian republic when anything less than full compliance will not do for his current job.

Adityanath has, for example, several cases of rioting against him when BJP won its massive mandate on the promise of restoring law and order. Its other promise was that of sabka saath, sabka vikas.

But it’s also unknown to what extent the UP chief minister shares this vision when his main political preoccupations so far appear to have been Ram mandir, cow protection and the mythical love jihad.

Indeed the law and order and sabka saath, sabka vikas planks are interrelated. It is impossible to have all-round development without social stability, and it is impossible to have social stability in a situation of endemic riots.

Perhaps to rein in the UP CM and check his worst instincts BJP has taken the unprecedented step of appointing two deputy CMs: state BJP chief Keshav Maurya and Lucknow mayor Dinesh Sharma. Among them Maurya will apparently be “senior”. But this arrangement could be an unwieldy structure for governance.

After BJP’s massive victory in UP, the party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are being seen as shoo-ins for Lok Sabha elections in 2019. By the same token, however, misgovernance in UP could cost BJP nationally.

My Comment:My :I agree with the editorial that Appointing Staunch Hindutva and extremist ideologue of radical Adityanath as CM of BJP would rule UP State which is the most populous after the latest assembly poll may sound death knell for secularism or Muslims and other minorities. When BJP caught power of the centre and many States of India in 2014 General Elections he was responsible for communal riots as a fanatic and radical cleric.AS rightly pointed out in the editorial he is a Radical Hindutva cleric with little administrative experience. He gives provocative and inflammatory Hindutva speeches that my lead to communal riots. in UP and also with UPs triggering effect communal riots may spread to entire nation. If any of these things happen it will spell doom for UP and its governance and development of Mr.Aditynath’s staunch and fanatic and highly fundamentalist Hindutva ideology and long term goal of establishing Hindu Rashtra in India eliminating all Muslims and other minorities by hook or crook. This does not augur well for integrity of India which is composed o f several religions, castes, languages and other communities.Hence the misgovernance in UP may cost dearly in the next general elections in 2019 for BJP at the center and many States.

Some of Asdityanath’s supporters argue that he is a Bachelor and may not be greedy for money And be not corrupt or do not indulge in nepotism . They point out Narendra Modi’, our PM as a case in point.

Whatever the naysayers say he is a cleric, staunch Hindutva fanatic and fundamentalist and incapable of taking the reins of power in UP, the most populous state in India. Let u s wait and watch whether he would prove us wrong by changing his skewed Hindutva ideology, fanaticism and embraces secularism of the right kind and in its true sense. He should focus on Good Governance and Development by eschewing his fanatic Hindutva Ideology to augur well for ruling UP at the helm.
